This is definitely news. The Jewish Press reports that the price of tomatoes in Israel has almost tripled. You may not think this is a big deal, but it is important enough in Israel. Tomatoes are a very important food in Israel. When I was in Israel, I do not think I ate one meal without a salad filled with finely chopped tomatoes. That includes breakfast. There is something about the way the tomatoes taste in Israel that is very different from the US.
I try to eat Israeli salad from many of the fine Mediterranean food establishments in my area, but the taste is always disappointing. I hope for the Israelis that prices return to normal soon.
